Before a visit from our Fire Extinguisher service engineers you may wish to consider the most likely fire risks on your premises. There are numerous kinds of fire extinguisher, all of which are designed to combat specific threats:
Class A fires: Solids such as paper, wood, and plastic,
Class B fires: Liquids such as paraffin, petrol, and oil,
Class C fires: Gases such as propane, butane, and methane,
Class D fires: Metals such as aluminium, magnesium, and titanium,
Class E fires: Electrical Fires,
Class F fires: Oil and Fat.
These are the most common and least costly fire extinguishers. They are used for Class A fires.
Foam Fire Extinguishers should be used for fires under Classes A and B. Foam Fire Extinguishers form a frothy blanket over the fire to starve it of oxygen. Foam extinguishers are not ideal for fires involving electricity, but are safer than water.
Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers can be used on classes A, B & C fires, but are ideally employed in fighting Class B fires.
C02 Fire Extinguishers are ideal for Class E fires, and will also extinguish class B liquid fires.
Specialist extinguisher for class F fires which work by cooling the oil below its ignition temperature with a blanket of foam.
